Nuestro Buyu Mr. Butch Johnson falleció el pasado Lunes. Le echaremos de menos. A continuación adjuntamos un texto inglés enviado por uno de sus alumnos. On Butch Johnson's passing
I received a few messages from Shea Johnson, a student of Butch Johnson. I'll quote some here. (Deleted parts are shown as ".....".)

Yesterday, Butch had a heart attack while he was working out in the gym.
They did CPR on him and rushed him to the Hospital yesterday. While he was there, they had to put 5 stints in his artery as it had been so clogged up that no blood was getting through. The operation was successful, however they had to heavily sedate him as they thought he was waking up.
Right now, he has not regained consciousness.
But I did sit with him and he still has a strong life-force. I believe he is simply Out of Body, and hasn't come back yet. But he was twitching pretty badly while strapped down into the bed. They gave him some sedatives to help ease the twitching. But they are uncertain if he suffered any neurological damage at this time.
I don't think he suffered any damage badly, but I simply do not know as he has not yet regained consciousness.
.....I and a few others are praying for Butch's quick and full recovery.

It is with a sad and heavy heart, that I tell you these things.
I went to see Butch today, but unfortunately, the only thing remaining of him was his body, hooked up to machines that made his heart beat and air pass in and out of his lungs.
The Butch that we all know and love, has gone.
I would like it to be known to Hatsumi-Soke, that Butch looked up to him as a Father figure. Much as I looked up to Butch. He wanted it known that if he could have had his choice of Fathers, he would have gladly picked Soke, and he loved and admired him a great deal.
Butch was always telling me how he felt so unworthy and how much more he had to learn.....He was so looking forward to coming to Japan at the end of November and was talking about spending a month or so there. Sadly, this will not happen now.
I am at a loss, right now, to tell you how deeply this has affected me.
The Dr.'s have not yet officially declaired him dead yet, but it is only a matter of time. The EEG (brain scan) showed very little signs of activity. His body was cold and clammy, and all of his life force has since left his body. There was life force yesterday, but his spirit was away. Now, even the life force is gone, and he truely is no longer of this world. Do not feel too badly for him, however. As he was telling me that more and more, his life was apart of the void. Appart of everything, but belonging to nothing. I cannot think of the proper Japenase term for it, as everything is currently jumbled about and I cannot make much sense of anything right now.
Anyway, I would like for you to let everyone know, that even though he had no living relatives and no relationship with his children, he considered the Bujinkan as his family. He loved everyone in the Bujinkan and even if he didn't get along with all of it's members, he considered the Bujinkan his family. His students all considered him as a Father figure and we looked to him for guidance as well as teachings. He felt that, above all, he was nothing more than a Martial Arts Instructor. He lived his life the best he knew how and trained every single day. He would tell us that in order for us to truely understand, we needed to train every day and incoporate martil arts into our lives. He said "Martial Arts isn't something that I _do_ , it's the way I live my life."
I will try to take these words to heart, and try my best to follow in his footsteps. Although my path will be different than his, I will try my best to make him proud of me.
.....He taught us a great deal, but there was so much more to be learned, and now.... well, now is the time where we have to see and learn for ourselves and try the best we can. But I still wish he was around to tell me how I don't understand and how there is so much left to be learned. I will try to keep an open mind and always realize that there is more to learn, than what I think I already know. He was very good at teaching us and bringing us along to another level of understanding, and I will miss that dearly of him.
He admired Noguchi-san and Shiraishi-san greatly. I know that they will miss him too. He would speak fondly of his training in Japan and how often he had things "beaten in" the "hard way". .....and how much he wished he could spend more time training in Japan.
Please let all of his old training partners know how fond he was of them. And how he finally outgrew his "Godzilla" mode and how being " soft" was the hardest lesson for him to learn for the longest of times.
It seems I am running on and on, yet saying nothing but the same thing over and over. My life, is at a loss right now. I miss Sensei- Johnson very much. I know that is not his proper term, but he has and always be "Sensei" to me. Please let all of the Bujinkan know how much he loved them and how much a part of his life they were.

We will be trying to locate family and see what can be done. If it comes to it, we'll notify the VA and see if they can provide burial services. He was a warrior through and through. He at least deserves a warrior's burial.
.....I just have this huge hole in my life that I am struggling to deal with right now.
We will save the shinza and kamiza. He was so happy and proud of the Bujinkan that they all chipped in and purchased it for us. It was a rather proud moment for me, as well. That the Bujinkan loved Sensei so much that they did that for us. I will try my best to see that it finds a dojo with us and is honoured appropriately.
I know these are trying times for you as well. Somehow, we will manage to get through this. But it is exceptionally difficult at the moment.

Here is the latest information that I have right now.
They are going to form an ethics committee about the life support system on Monday. The probable cause of action will be to terminate the life support machines. I know that this will result in him being declared clinically dead. So it's now a matter of when they decide to turn the machines off. And that looks like it's going to happen on Monday.
Still working on getting with the Military to see if they can locate his children. Not sure how the Red Cross is doing with his son that's in the Military. Will speak to the Marine Corps on Monday to see if they will give him a Military funeral or not. I think they will, but I'm not 100% on that.
So that's all the news on this front. When more happens, I will let you know.

At 4:11 am on the 4th of October, 2004. Everett Lester Johnson Jr.'s body finally gave out after a week in a comma from his stroke on Monday the week prior.
It is with a sad heart that I tell you, Butch has finally given up on this world and has moved on to the next.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but I will be notifying the Marine Corps and letting them know.
It is a sad and tragic loss. He will greatly be missed by us all.

Desde Bujinkan News at Ben Jones' site.
